Solution Summary

  • Nippon Shokubai 's AQUALIC™ AS achieves a sharp molecular weight distribution through its unique manufacturing technology. This results in a low content of low molecular weight polymers.

  • Good solubility in alcohols such as glycerin, allowing for high flexibility in formulation

High molecular weight acrylic acid polymerized using our unique technology has a sharp molecular weight distribution and contains little low molecular weight polymers, improving adhesive residue on the surface to which it is attached!

Mr. W and other members of the research lab, who had been gathering information from a wide range of sources, learned about Nippon Shokubai 's AQUALIC AS from a business partner. Interested in AQUALIC AS, Mr. W immediately contacted Nippon Shokubai to discuss the current issues. He discovered that AQUALIC AS had the following features:

"This polymer has been produced using a unique manufacturing technique that has achieved a sharp molecular weight distribution with little low molecular weight polymer, which means that no adhesive residue remains on the item to which it is attached. It also has good solubility in alcohols such as glycerin, allowing for a high degree of freedom in its formulation." (Mr. W)

Mr. W immediately obtained a sample of AQUALIC AS from Nippon Shokubai, which he mixed into a prototype adhesive in the laboratory and evaluated. He confirmed that it reduced the amount of adhesive remaining on the surface of the object it was attached to. He also confirmed that the adhesive strength was improved compared to previous versions and that it was possible to suppress the seepage of alcoholic ingredients such as glycerin.

We are currently making final adjustments to the formulation in order to conduct mass production trials.
