Spherical melamine/benzoguanamine particles improve diffusion
Nippon Shokubai 's EPOSTAR™ series is a spherical microparticle made from melamine/benzoguanamine resin, which has excellent affinity and dispersibility in resins and organic solvents.
It has a higher refractive index (n=1.66) than acrylic particles, making it easy to adjust the brightness by changing the amount added.
In addition, a wide range of particle sizes (0.1 to 9 μm) is available to accommodate a variety of film designs.
Mr. K, who had been gathering information extensively, was told by a materials trading company that "If you have a problem with fine particles, why not consult Nippon Shokubai?" He immediately contacted them and explained his current issues, and later a representative from Nippon Shokubai suggested the "EPOSTAR Series" of melamine/benzoguanamine resin fine particles.
EPOSTAR series is a series of spherical particles made from melamine resin and benzoguanamine resin, which have excellent affinity and dispersibility in resins and organic solvents. The particle structure (triazine ring) gives it a high refractive index (n=1.66), which is higher than the 1.50 of typical acrylics. The refractive index difference with the film substrate is large, making it easy to adjust brightness. Another advantage is that the particle size can be controlled between 0.1 and 9 μm to suit the film design.
Mr. K evaluated a prototype using several samples with different particle size distributions provided to him. As a result, he completed a prototype with an excellent balance of haze, total light transmittance, light diffusion, etc.
We immediately had the people involved in the joint development check it out, and received very positive feedback on both the brightness and light source hiding ability.
We are currently receiving advice from Nippon Shokubai and are fine-tuning the film's composition towards completion.
