Solutions

Solution Summary

  • Nippon Shokubai 's VEEA™ is an acrylate monomer with two different reactive sites in the same molecule, has excellent UV curing properties, low viscosity, and complies with overseas regulations.

  • When a prototype hard coating agent using a VEEA™ sample was evaluated, it was found that it could be cured with a lower UV exposure dose and exposure time than before, thereby shortening the takt time.

  • It is compatible with the multifunctional oligomers used in hard coating agents, achieving optimal viscosity.

By incorporating VEEA™, the difficult problem of achieving both UV curing properties and low viscosity has been resolved!

While gathering information on materials for improvement, Mr. K heard about Nippon Shokubai 's "VEEA" from a trading company. Intrigued, Mr. K immediately contacted Nippon Shokubai and agreed to receive a detailed explanation and sample at a later date.

"VEEA is an acrylate monomer with two different reactive sites in the same molecule. When I heard that it has excellent UV curing properties, low viscosity, and complies with overseas regulations, I thought, 'This is it!'" (Mr. K)
Mr. K was also reassured by the fact that it had already been widely adopted as a monomer for UV-curable inks for industrial inkjet printers and boasted a high market share.

Mr. K immediately carried out testing on a prototype hard coating agent using the provided VEEA sample. He found that it was successfully cured with a lower UV exposure dose and exposure time than before. This is expected to improve productivity by shortening takt time. It also works well with the multifunctional oligomer used in the hard coating agent, achieving optimal viscosity.

"When we had our client try out this prototype, they were amazed at how different it was from what they had before. They were very satisfied, so we were relieved." (Mr. K)
In the future, we plan to introduce the product to other customers with similar needs and prepare for mass production.
